Understand your customers' marketing opt-ins
Find out how customers opt in to your marketing emails, how to export your customer list and how to see who has opted in before you send a campaign.
Your customers are one of your most valuable assets, and keeping in touch with them is a great way to bring them back for more. eola gives every customer a clear chance to opt in to your marketing, so you can build a mailing list of people who want to hear from you.
How customers opt in
Customers can opt in to marketing when they book through your widget and when they create their eola account. To meet marketing regulations, the opt-in box isn't ticked automatically. Customers need to actively tick it to sign up.
Export your customer list
To export your customers, go to Reports -> Customers.
- Select 'Columns' and add the Marketing column. You can add other columns too, to help you target your campaign
- Use the filters if you'd like to narrow your list, for example by activity type
- Select the rows you'd like, or download all rows
- Open the file in a program like Google Sheets or Microsoft Excel
See who has opted in
In your export, look at the marketing_subscribed_at column.
- A date and time: the customer opted in to marketing at that point
- Blank: there's no opt-in on record for that customer
Filter the column to hide blank entries, and you'll have a list you can upload to your newsletter or email marketing tool.
Important: only send marketing emails to customers who have a date in the marketing_subscribed_at column. If the column is blank, there's no record of consent for that customer, so we'd recommend leaving them out of your marketing emails.
Good to know
- The customer report is available to team members with the Owner permission set
- We've recently improved how opt-ins are recorded, so opt-ins from both checkout and account sign-up are saved to this column
- Every new booking gives customers a chance to opt in, so your list will keep growing over time
Helpful tips:
- Export a fresh customer report before each campaign, so your list includes everyone who has opted in most recently
- Give customers a reason to opt in by mentioning offers, new sessions or members' news in your activity descriptions
- If you have questions about your customer data, contact us at help@eola.co and we'll be happy to help
