Understand magic links
Find out how your customers sign in to their eola account with a magic link, and what to check if a link doesn't arrive.
Your customers sign in to their eola account with a magic link rather than a password. They enter their email address, we send them a secure link, and one click signs them in. There are no passwords to remember or reset, which makes signing in quicker and more secure.
This guide explains how magic links work, so you can confidently help any customer or member who asks how to sign in.
What is a magic link?
A magic link is a one-click sign-in link that we email to your customer. Because it arrives in their own inbox, only the person with access to that email address can use it to sign in.
Why does eola use magic links instead of passwords?
Magic links make signing in simpler and more secure for your customers, and save your team time too:
- More secure: There's no password that could be guessed, reused from another website or leaked. Only someone with access to the customer's inbox can sign in to their account
- Nothing to remember: Customers don't need to create, remember or reset a password, which is especially helpful for customers who only book with you a few times a year
- Fewer queries for your team: Customers can get back into their account in seconds, without needing to contact you about a forgotten password
- Familiar to customers: Lots of well-known apps and websites sign people in the same way, so many of your customers will already be used to it
When do customers need to sign in?
Customers don't need to sign in to make a booking. Signing in is useful when they want to:
- Book as a member and use their membership benefits
- See their upcoming bookings
- Manage their membership or update their payment method
How do customers sign in?
Customers can sign in from your booking widget by selecting the account icon, or at eola.co/enthusiasts/sign_in.
- Enter the email address they book with
- Select 'Send magic link'
- Open the email from eola and select 'Log in to my account'
If they started signing in from your widget, the link takes them straight back to your widget so they can carry on booking.
Text message: If a customer has a mobile number on their account, they can also tick 'Also text me a login link' on the sign-in page to receive the link by text as well as by email.
Good to know
- Each magic link lasts for 60 minutes. After that, customers can request a new one in a few seconds
- If a customer requests more than one link, it's best to use the most recent email
- Opening the link soon after requesting it means customers return straight to where they left off in your widget
- Ticking 'Remember me' means customers won't need a new link every time they visit on that device. We recommend leaving it unticked on shared devices
- Magic links are for customer accounts only. You and your team sign in to your Dashboard through the Business login as usual
- If a customer receives a magic link they didn't request, there's no need to worry. Someone may have entered their email address by mistake, and nobody can sign in without access to their inbox
If a customer's magic link doesn't arrive, or they're having trouble signing in, see A customer is unable to sign in with a magic link.
Helpful tips:
- Point members to your own booking widget to sign in, so they land straight back on your activities
- When you welcome new members, let them know to look out for an email from eola and add noreply@eola.co to their contacts
- Encourage regular members to tick 'Remember me' on their own phone or computer for quicker sign-in next time
- If a customer's email address is wrong on their account, our team can update it for you
