Set up custom categories

Learn how to set up and manage Custom Categories to organise your activities, rentals and accommodation. This guide covers creating and editing categories, customising images and display order, assigning products, and enabling categories on your widget.

Through custom categories you can allow a customer to easily find and click through to the right product (activity, rental or accommodation) on your widget. With refined options to choose from you will help customers convert to booking. 

First you will need to enable the Custom Categories app by going to Toolset -> Apps -> Custom categories -> Enable. From here you can create your first custom category when editing an activity or rental. Add a Category name and select '-Create New-' from the drop down menu.

Once you have a number of categories created you can edit the order they appear on the widget and also customise the photo.

To do this go to: Toolset -> Widget -> Categories -> Edit (on the category you would like to edit), from here you have a number of options.

  1. Add a custom image, if no custom image is added we will pull an image from the activities within the category
  2. Edit the category name
  3. Ordering: the higher number will be shown on the top of the list
  4. Select Activities/Rentals or accommodation to include (they can be added to more than one category). This allows you to tick the products to display without having to go into each product setup
  5. Click 'Save category'

Lastly, you'll want to enable your new custom categories on your widget. 

To do this go to: Toolset -> Widget -> My Widgets -> Primary (or the widget that you are adding categories to) -> 4. Product categories. Select 'custom categories'. Tick the categories that you would like to include, and press 'Save'. 

Helpful tips: 

  • When setting up your custom categories, think about what headlines make sense to your customers to find what they're looking for quickly. Perhaps it's splitting it out between different type of activity, by adult / children's activities, or by level of experience (beginner, improver and advanced)

  • As and when you create a new product, remember to add it to a custom categories 

  • Any uncategorised products will show under Toolset -> Widget -> Categories -> "Uncategorised products" (you'll see it at the bottom of the list) 

  • As you have been working locally you may find that not all your changes are instant on your website. To reload a page click 'View' on the top menu bar and 'Reload', this should download an updated version from the server
