Increase a membership price

Learn how to increase your membership price by adding a new price plan, and how to move existing members on to it.

Your costs change over time, and you can update your membership prices whenever you need to. In eola, a new price is set up as a new price plan. This keeps everything clear for your members and gives them the chance to decide whether to continue at the new price.

Create a new price plan

Price plans can't be edited once they've been created, so start by adding a new plan with your new price.

  1. Go to Products -> Memberships and select the membership
  2. Click Add a Price Plan
  3. Give the plan a clear nickname, such as "Adult monthly 2027"
  4. Set up the plan with your new price and click Save

The membership itself stays the same, so your benefits, terms and question pack don't need to be set up again.

Continuous memberships: move your existing members

Once your new plan is ready, you can move existing members on to it.

  1. Go to Products -> Memberships
  2. Click on the membership and go to the old price plan
  3. Press View
  4. Click on the customer's name
  5. Press Edit in the top-right corner
  6. Select the new price plan from the dropdown
  7. Press Change subscription

The change takes effect straight away. The member is charged a pro-rata amount for the rest of their current period, and the new price applies from then on.

Important: let your members know about the price change in advance, so they have the opportunity to cancel their membership before the increase if they'd prefer.

Fixed-length memberships: let current terms run

Add your new price plan, then delete the old one so no new members can join it. Existing members keep their current price until their term ends, and when it's time to renew, they'll only see the new plan.

Helpful tips:

  • Include the year in your plan nickname so your team can see at a glance which price is current
  • Give members plenty of notice, and remind them of the benefits they get as a member
  • If you'd like a hand planning a price change, contact our team at help@eola.co and we'll be happy to talk it through
