Change a member's price plan

Learn how to upgrade or downgrade a member by moving them to a different price plan, what happens to their payments and how to offer a discount.

If a member would like to upgrade or downgrade, you can move them to a different price plan on the same membership yourself. Their membership carries on without a break, and eola works out any difference in price.

Move a member to a different price plan

  1. Go to Products -> Memberships and select the membership
  2. Go to the member's current price plan and press View
  3. Click on the member's name
  4. Press Edit in the top-right corner
  5. Select the new price plan from the dropdown
  6. Press Change subscription

What happens to their payments?

  • Upgrading: moving to a higher-priced plan creates a payment for the difference straight away, and the new price applies from then on. If the payment doesn't go through, the membership will show as past due and becomes active again as soon as it's paid
  • Downgrading: the lower price is taken from their next payment. If the member has already paid more than the new plan costs, you can arrange a partial refund with them

Moving to a different membership

To move a member to a different membership altogether, for example from a junior membership to a family one, the member can buy the new membership and you can cancel the old one with 'Cancel now with refund'. This refunds the remaining time on their original membership.

Offering a member a discount

If you'd like to offer a reduced price, a membership discount code is the easiest way to do it. Take a look at our Create a membership discount code guide.

Helpful tips:

  • Check with the member that their card details are up to date before upgrading, so the payment goes through first time
  • Let the member know what they'll pay and when, so there are no surprises
  • If you'd like to refund the full amount of a membership, contact our team at help@eola.co and we'll be happy to help
